The Experience of Savoring a Single Cup of Tea

A Houhin is a traditional Japanese teapot without a handle, developed to bring out the finest qualities of Japanese tea. It is particularly suited to brewing gyokuro and premium sencha at lower temperatures, allowing the tea's natural sweetness, umami, and delicate aroma to unfold.

There is a reason why a Houhin is small. Gyokuro and fine sencha are not teas meant to be brewed in large quantities simply to quench one's thirst. Instead, they are prepared slowly in small amounts using cooler water, allowing each infusion to reveal the tea's evolving character.

Preparing a single cup begins by pouring hot water over the leaves and patiently waiting for them to open. It is a quiet moment to slow down, collect your thoughts, and share time with those around you.

To truly savor a single cup of tea—this is the heart of Japanese tea culture.

A Flat Houhin features a wider, shallower body than a standard Houhin. This shape allows the tea leaves to spread evenly, ensuring that hot water reaches every leaf and gently extracts its sweetness and aroma. It is an ideal form for appreciating the delicate character of gyokuro and fine sencha.

Although compact in size, it is especially suited to premium teas such as gyokuro, high-grade sencha, and kabusecha, bringing out the full sweetness, fragrance, and complexity of each infusion.
